West Bottoms Weekly: West Bottoms Plant Company Expanding to Lawrence

A quieter news week in the West Bottoms, but one notable story: one of the neighborhood's well-loved small businesses is growing across the state line.

West Bottoms Plant Company Expanding to Lawrence

Startland News reported this week that West Bottoms Plant Company is opening a sister shop in downtown Lawrence called Mass Street Plant Company. The new location at 6 E 7th Street — formerly home to Jungle House — will have a soft opening on May 2 and a grand opening in June.

Co-owners Austin Mosier and Tristan Carlson opened the West Bottoms flagship in 2022 inside the historic 12th Street Post Building. Since then, the shop has grown into a community hub that supports more than 180 local artists and makers alongside the ADHDIY Craft Cafe. The Lawrence location will bring that same formula — curated houseplants, locally made goods, and a smaller version of the craft cafe with seating for around 20 — to the Mass Street corridor.

"Our approach has always been rooted in community," Mosier told Startland News. "This expansion is about creating another space where people can feel welcome, inspired, and connected."

The Lawrence shop will intentionally preserve elements from Jungle House, maintaining the welcoming community spirit that previous tenant built there. For West Bottoms regulars, it's a nice reminder that the shops and makers who make this neighborhood special are doing well enough to grow.
