The seventh annual Stockyards Legends Dinner was held on the evening of May 21 at The Hobbs on W. 9th Street, near the historic area known as "the wettest block in the USA."
Michael R. Haverty, civic leader and former executive of the Kansas City Southern Railway, was honored by 100 guests, along with his family and friends. The evening was marked by beautiful weather, delicious food, and heartfelt appreciation for Mr. Haverty’s remarkable career and contributions to our city.
William H. Galligan, author of the 2024 book Vision Accomplished: The History of the Kansas City Southern, served as the keynote speaker. Mr. Haverty’s son also spoke, and Mr. Haverty shared remarks of his own.
Officials from Kansas City Southern and the recently merged CPKC were in attendance, as well as community leaders from City Hall, Port KC, Union Station, and the Kansas City Public Library. All joined in celebrating the honoree.
Mr. Haverty was presented with a watercolor by Alex Hamil, event director of HWBA’s third annual Wilbur Niewald plein air event.
